Gut Check

A Firefox extension that asks an AI model one question about every video YouTube recommends to you, and crosses off or hides the ones that fail it. By default the question is “Will watching this video increase my anxiety about the world?”. You can change it.

Download for Firefox
Version 0.3.1, signed by Mozilla.

Install on desktop Firefox

Open the download and click Add. Click the toolbar icon, paste your OpenRouter key, and choose Grant access if the panel shows it.

Install on Firefox for Android

  1. Download the file above.
  2. Settings → About Firefox, then tap the Firefox logo several times to enable the debug menu.
  3. Back in Settings, choose Install add-on from file and pick the download. (Menu wording varies a little between versions.)
  4. Open the add-ons list in the Firefox menu, open Gut Check, and paste your key.

Works on youtube.com and m.youtube.com in Firefox, not in the YouTube app. The panel's Diagnostics section shows whether the page's video cards were recognised.

What it sends

For each recommended video: the title, channel, view count, age and duration. They go to OpenRouter with your API key, to TypeSafe's Jev model. Nothing is sent to this site, and the key stays in your browser.
